Short-Lived OG App Was Ready To Give You A Nostalgic Feeling of Social Media Without Ads
Remember when Instagram first appeared to the public? It was simpler back then—just pictures, filters, chronological timelines, and no ads. Now the app has grown to include a growing number of promotional posts, reels, and suggested content, which, honestly too much to follow. For you who feel the same, a new app called OG App, promises to take Instagram back in time by offering users a customizable experience that eliminates ads and other things you don’t want to see.
Ansh Nanda and Hardik Patil—the creator of the OG App—said they wanted to put users’ experience at the forefront so that they can control what users consume on Instagram. To do so, OG App reverse-engineered Instagram for Android API. However, that created a lot of issues that potentially risked users’ privacy and security. As a result, around the same time, App Store and Google Play Store removed the app and said that it was accessing Instagram’s service in an unauthorized manner.
The developers put out a tweet saying they won’t be able to continue serving users for now and will relaunch the app later. What do you think about the apps? Would you use it should they relaunch? If you do, you might want to join their waiting list!
